I am Zaeba Hanif, I am a working mother with two young children and I live locally in the Stoke-on-Trent North constituency. I was born to parents who come from a very working class background in Stoke-on-Trent and contributed to the Pottery Industry which is very much a part of our local heritage. My family have historically been Labour party voters and supporters: raising children of my own I became an active member, not just for a better future for my family, but all families locally. I studied at the Mitchell High School and from there continued my development within voluntary sector agencies such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Changes (a local mental health service) and North Staffs Racially Equality Council. Working alongside the most vulnerable and marginalised groups of people in the City and North Staffordshire has fired my passion to empower the local community and make a difference, and has shaped my life, outlook and the beginning of my journey to fight for equality, fairness and social justice.
I am a member of the Stoke North Constituency Labour Party’s Executive Committee, and I am also their Women’s Officer. I have also served as a regional representative and Vice Chairperson for The Cooperative Party’s National Youth Committee.
Together we can create opportunities for our young people, protect vulnerable people, empowering local people and to work collectively as a party – I believe we are at our best when we share ideas and listen to each other. I am the best person to represent Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove because I truly understand the challenges facing local people and families.
I have genuine empathy for local people, because I am local, I share our struggles, and our experiences.
